Running back Matt Asiata re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday.

Asiata spent the past four seasons with Vikings and was their primary back in 2014 when Adrian Peterson was on the commissioner's exempt list.

With Peterson missing most of the 2014 season, Asiata rushed for 570 yards and nine touchdowns on 164 carries and added 44 receptions for 312 yards and one touchdown. His rushing touchdowns were the third most in the NFL in 2014.

Last season, after Peterson returned, Asiata rushed just 29 times for 112 yards and had 19 catches for 132 yards.

The 28-year-old Asiata is expected to be Peterson's backup again in 2016 along with Jerick McKinnon.
