Miami Dolphins release Brice McCain, Quinton Coples

The Miami Dolphins released defensive end Quinton Coples and cornerback Brice McCain, the team announced Friday.

McCain signed a free-agent contract with the Dolphins before the 2015 season, and he played in 14 games, including 11 starts, this past season, recording one interception and 10 passes defensed.

The Dolphins voided the final year of his two-year, $5.5 million deal, and releasing McCain's clears $2.5 million from Miami's salary cap.

Coples was with the Dolphins for part of one season, and played in six games for Miami in 2015, recording one quarterback hurry.

He was acquired off waivers in November from the New York Jets after playing in 10 games for the Jets in 2015.

The Dolphins would have had to pay Coples a $7.5 million, fifth-year option if he remained on the roster in March.
