Mariners add Trumbo from Diamondbacks in 6-player deal

After scoring less than four runs in their eighth straight game Wednesday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners acquired power-hitting first baseman/outfielder Mark Trumbo from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Along with Trumbo, Seattle added left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuno. The Diamondbacks received four players in return, headlined by catcher Welington Castillo.

Trumbo, 29, was batting just .259 with a .299 on-base percentage in 46 games prior to Wednesday. However, he slugged nine home runs, which would be tied for second on the Mariners' roster.

In a six-year career with the Angels and Diamondbacks, Trumbo has 118 homers in 594 games.

The 27-year-old Nuno has made three appearances with Arizona this season, striking out 19 batters and allowing three runs in 14 1/3 innings.

Castillo was just acquired by Seattle from the Cubs on May 19 and played in six games before being traded again. The 28-year-old is a career .250 hitter in 316 games, most of which came with the Cubs.

Right-handed reliever Dominic Leone is headed to Arizona with Castillo. Leone, 23, owns a 6.35 earned run average in 11 1/3 innings with the Mariners this season after going 8-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 66 1/3 innings out of their bullpen in 2014.

The Diamondbacks are also receiving two minor league players, outfielder Gabby Guerrero and shortstop Jack Reinheimer. The 21-year-old Guerrero, nephew of former big leaguers Vladimir Guerrero and Wilton Guerrero, was batting .215 for Double-A Jackson after participating in the MLB Futures Game during the 2014 All-Star break.

Reinheimer, 22, was batting .277 for Jackson and is regarded for his defense.
