Celtics' Crowder avoids ACL tear

The Boston Celtics confirmed on Monday that forward Jae Crowder suffered only an ACL sprain in Sunday's season-ending playoff loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The injury occurred when Cleveland's J.R. Smith was ejected in the third quarter for hitting Crowder while trying to box out the Celtics forward.

After Crowder gave Smith a little shove in the back, Smith connected with his right hand as he wheeled around in the direction of the ball.

Crowder left the game with the injury as a result of the blow.

Tests on Monday confirmed the injury. There was concern that Crowder might have suffered a torn ACL.

Boston dropped a 101-93 decision in Game 4 and was swept out of the first round.
