LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Los Angeles will soon be getting a long-awaited football team or two within the next two years according to a new report.

The metro area is the second largest television market with basketball, baseball and hockey franchises that call the city home but is has been without a pro football team since 1995. That is supposed to change within the next two years, a league source told NBC Sports.

The projected timeline would see a team move there in the 2015 or 2016 off-season.

The St. Louis Rams, the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders are the top contenders to move to Los Angeles. The Rams and Raiders both played in LA and left after the 1994 season. The Chargers played there in 1960 before moving south to San Diego.

The team would play at the Rose Bowl or the LA Coliseum pending the construction of a new stadium.
