ATLANTA, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- PGA tour golfer Rory McIlroy found himself in an awkward situation during round two of the Tour Championship when he hit a drive directly into a fan's pocket.

On the 14th hole of the second round of the Tour Championship, McIlroy's first drive landed to the far right of the fairway into a tree. The ball then bounced through the branches before dropping straight down into a fan's pocket.

The fan then had to stand still and wait while McIlroy and the nearest rules official discussed how to handle the situation. McIlroy was allowed to drop the ball where the fan stood without penalty. He went on to make par on the hole.

McIlroy finished with 65 on the day, tying for third with Jason Day and Chris Kirk with 134. The trio is two shots behind American Billy Horschel, who is currently 4-under par after shooting 66 on consecutive days.
