MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli teamed up to defeat Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos Saturday, giving Italy a 2-1 lead over Argentina in Davis Cup play.
Fognini and Bolelli bested the Argentine duo 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at Mar del Plata in the best-of-five opening-round Davis Cup confrontation.
The Argentines will look to Sunday's reverse singles to mount a comeback. Fognini is slated to play Carlos Berlocq and Andreas Seppi is set to take on Argentina's Juan Monaco.
Friday's Day 1 had Berlocq rallying for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 win over Seppi and Fognini besting Monaco 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
The Italy-Argentina winner will next either the United States or Great Britain in April's quarterfinals.
