Report: Lakers lukewarm on Gasol-Bynum trade

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Lakers appear unlikely to trade Pau Gasol to Cleveland for center Andrew Bynum in a salary-shedding move, a source told the Los Angeles Times.

The source, who was familiar with the situation, told the Times the Lakers wanted more value for Gasol and were lukewarm to the idea of acquiring Bynum, who was suspended indefinitely by the Cavaliers for unspecified detrimental conduct.

Bynum played for the Lakers until he was traded last season. He averaged 8.4 points per game this season prior to his suspension.

Under a trade scenario reported Tuesday by ESPN.com, Los Angeles would reacquire Bynum and then immediately waive him in order to pay him roughly half of his $12.3 million salary. Gasol is being paid $19.3 million this season.
