Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki announce engagement

SYDNEY, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki said she happily accepted golfer Rory McIlroy's New Year's Eve marriage proposal.

The 24-year-old Danish Wozniacki and Northern Irishman McIlroy both took to Twitter Tuesday to announce they would be tying the knot at a date yet to be set.

"Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! ... I said YES!!!!" tweeted Wozniacki, the current world No. 10 women's player.

"My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!" McIlroy said in his own tweet.

The pair have been an item since 2011. McIlroy popped the question in Australia where his future wife is preparing for the Australian Open.
