ST. LOUIS, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- David Backes scored the first and last goals of a St. Louis power surge Thursday that brought the Blues a 6-3 win over Toronto.

St. Louis produced the first four goals of the game and Backes got it started 4:48 into the contest. Jaden Schwartz and Derek Roy both had first-period goals for the Blues and Chris Stewart tallied 29 seconds into the middle stanza to give St. Louis a 4-0 cushion.

An empty-net goal by Backes finished the scoring with 30 seconds left in the contest.

The six goals came from the third most productive offense in the NHL this season. St. Louis has 106 goals for the year, behind only Chicago and Anaheim.

Brian Elliott picked up the win with 19 saves. James Reimer gave up three goals on 15 shots before being removed late in the first period for Jonathan Bernier.
