NHL: Calgary 5, Winnipeg 4 (SO)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Sean Monahan scored in the eighth round of a shootout Monday and the Calgary Flames emerged with a wild 5-4 win over Winnipeg.

The Flames held a 2-1 advantage entering the third period but the two teams combined for five goals over the final 20 minutes.

Calgary surrendered leads of 3-2 and 4-3 during the period, with Brian Little notching the 4-4 equalizer for Winnipeg with 5.6 seconds remaining on the rebound of an Evander Kane shot.

After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to marathon shootout, during which Lee Stempniak scored a clutch goal off the Jets' Al Montoya in the fourth round to extend the contest.

Monahan finally netted the game-winner four rounds later when he bested Montoya on a forehand shot between the pads.

T.J. Brodie and Michael Cammalleri each provided a goal and an assist while Lance Bouma and Jiri Hudler also scored for Calgary.

Reto Berra made 43 saves.

Dustin Byfuglien and Brian Little notched a goal and an assist for Winnipeg and Michael Frolik also scored.

Montoya stopped 29 shots.
