GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Pornanong Phatlum shot a 6-under 66 Thursday to lead by one over an elite field after the opening round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

The tournament is hosted by the former No. 1-ranked female golfer in the world, who retired three years ago at the peak of her career after winning 27 times on the LPGA Tour.

Amy Yang was alone in second at 67 while Inbee Park, So Yeon Ryu and Anna Nordqvist shared third place at 68. Park is currently the tour's top-ranked player with six wins to her credit this year.

Michelle Wie and Jenny Shin both shot a 69 to tie for sixth while Suzanne Pettersen was among those at 70.

Defending champion Cristie Kerr struggled to a 77 and was in last place in the 36-player field.
