LONDON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Undefeated 3-year-old filly Treve was named Tuesday as the Cartier Horse of the Year for Europe.
The daughter of Motivator capped off her season with a 5-lengths win in Europe's most prestigious race, the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris. She is expected to remain in training in 2014.
Treve is owned by Sheik Joaan bin Hamad al Thani of Qatar and trained in France by Criquette Head-Maarek. She also, of course, was champion 3-year-old filly.
Two of the divisional winners announced during a dinner at the Dorchester Hotel were winners at the recent Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita. The champion 2-year-old filly, Chriselliam, won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filly Turf after earlier taking the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies Mile at Newmarket. The champion 3-year-old colt, Magician, won the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas in May and then came off a 5-months layoff to win the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Dank was not nominated despite traveling from England to win the Grade I Beverly D. at Arlington Park in August, then shipping to California to take down the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
