It was a 2-2 game heading into the third period, but Tomas Tatar put Detroit in front to stay just 1:25 into the stanza.

Abdelkader's goal gave the Red Wings some insurance, which was needed when Curtis Glenncross tallied for the Flames with just 10 seconds to go in regulation.

Jimmy Howard collected the win with 22 saves. Joey MacDonald also stopped 22 shots for the Flames, who have lost four out of five.
