Utah Jazz rookie Trey Burke to undergo finger surgery

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- First-round draft pick Trey Burke will be shelved after undergoing surgery on his right index finger, the Utah Jazz announced Monday.

No immediate timetable for rookie point guard's return was given by the team, which obtained Burke in a trade with Minnesota after the Timberwolves had chosen him with the ninth overall pick in the June NBA draft.

The Deseret News, however, reported the former Michigan star will be out 8-to-12 weeks, meaning he would miss up to the first 10 weeks of the season.

The team said procedure will be performed Tuesday in Salt Lake City by Dr. Douglas Hutchinson.

Burke was injured when his hand got tangled with Los Angeles Clippers all-star Chris Paul during a preseason game.
