MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 6, Miami 4

MIAMI, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Yasiel Puig, benched before the game for arriving late to the park, cracked a pinch-hit, go-ahead homer Tuesday and the Los Angeles Dodgers bested Miami 6-4.

Los Angeles Manager Don Mattingly held Puig out of the starting lineup after the star rookie didn't make it to Marlins Park in time, but Puig made up for his mistake in a big way in the eighth inning of a 4-4 tie game.

In his first at-bat after being inserted as a defensive replacement, Puig smashed the first pitch he saw from Dan Jennings (2-4) off the top of the left field wall for his 10th homer of the year.

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5, including a run-scoring single, while Carl Crawford, Mark Ellis and Todd Federowicz each produced an RBI as the National League West-leading Dodgers snapped a two-game losing streak.

Chris Withrow (2-0) notched the decision with 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Kenley Jansen nailed down the win with his 20th save.

Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Jeff Mathis added a run-scoring single for Miami.
