ARLINGTON, Texas, July 31 (UPI) -- Adrian Beltre led off the ninth inning with a home run Wednesday, lifting Texas to a 2-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels.

Nelson Cruz hit a home run in the second to put Texas in front and Los Angeles tied it in the seventh on a homer from Josh Hamilton.

Jerome Williams for the Angels and Martin Perez for the Rangers engaged in the pitcher's duel, but neither figured in the decision.

Beltre fouled off three pitches before hitting his home run to left on a 2-2 count. It came off Michael Kohn (1-1).

Texas closer Joe Nathan (3-1) issued a one-out walk in the top of the ninth, then struck out the next two batters and wound up with the win.

The three combined runs came one night after the teams had produced 25 runs and 35 hits in a game Texas won in 10 innings.
