Berdych advances to third round of Aegon Championships

LONDON, June 12 (UPI) -- No. 2-seeded Tomas Berdych needed only an hour Wednesday to claim a second-round win at the Aegon Championships tennis tournament in London.

Berdych beat Thiemo de Bakker 6-1, 6-4, fighting off all six break points he faced. He also converted three of his five break opportunities while taking 60 percent of the points in the match.

Fifth-seeded Marin Cilic was a 6-3, 6-4 victor over Ivan Dodig, seventh-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov edged by Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and No. 16-seeded Grega Zemlja topped Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-5, 7-4 but a series of lower seeds lost.

Lleyton Hewitt raced past 10th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3; Benjamin Becker took a tight 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 decision from 12th-seeded Lukas Rosol, and Daniel Evans eliminated No. 13-seeded Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4.

Kenny de Schepper advanced over Rohan Bopanna 6-4, 6-3 in a second-round match between unseeded players.
