PITTSBURGH, May 30 (UPI) -- Russell Martin's bases-loaded drive to deep left field in the 11th inning Thursday brought home the only run in Pittsburgh's 1-0 win over Detroit.
The Pirates have produced four 1-0 wins in their last 11 games, one of those coming against Detroit on Tuesday that also went 11 innings.
Martin then sent a 2-2 pitch all the way to the wall, a hit that was scored a single. Pittsburgh won for the 16th time in 20 games.
Detroit put runners in scoring position with less than two outs in the fifth, sixth and seventh. The Tigers failed to come up with a run in the fifth despite having four hits in the inning. They had two runners thrown out at the plate during the frame.
The win went to Bryan Morris (3-2), the sixth Pittsburgh pitcher who worked the top of the 11th.
