MLB: St. Louis 14, San Francisco 3

SAN FRANCISCO, April 7 (UPI) -- Matt Carpenter' three hits, three RBI and three runs scored Sunday keyed a15-hit attack that carried the St. Louis Cardinals over San Francisco 14-3.

Matt Adams chipped in with three hits and two RBI, while Carlos Beltran, Jon Jay and Allen Craig also drove in two runs each for St. Louis, which broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning.

Adam Wainwright (1-1) hurled seven innings of two-run ball to claim the victory following an Opening Day loss to Arizona. The right-hander yielded seven hits and struck out six.

Giants starter Matt Cain (0-1), meanwhile, was roughed up for nine runs on seven hits before exiting with two outs during the big fourth frame.

Angel Pagan doubled and tripled with an RBI and Pablo Sandoval also drove in a run for San Francisco.
