Tseng No. 1 as LPGA schedule opens

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Yani Tseng again starts another LPGA year with the No. 1 ranking among women's golfers.

The LPGA 2013 schedule opens this week at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open. The tour will have two other stops -- Thailand and Singapore -- before its first U.S. tournament. That's the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup March 14-17 in Phoenix.

Other women's tours have been contesting tournaments this year. That includes the Ladies European Tour, which included the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women's Open in its schedule. Lydia Ko, a 15-year-old a native New Zealander won the tournament Sunday. It was her third professional tournament title and lifts her to No. 30 in the rankings.

Tseng remains atop the rankings, a position she's held for 105 weeks. Her ranking points average is 9.69 with Choi Na-yeon second at 8.48. Stacy Lewis comes in fourth at 7.96 and Inbee Park (7.51) is fourth.

Feng Shanshan is fifth with an average of 6.75. Ryu So-yeon (6.51) edges past Suzann Pettersen (6.47) for the No. 6 spot, relegating Pettersen to seventh. Jiyai Shin is eighth at 6.08 followed by No. 9 Ai Miyazato (6.03) and 10th-ranked Mika Miyazato at 5.36.
