Ferrer claims third Valencia Open crown

VALENCIA, Spain, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer of Spain once again triumphed at his hometown event Sunday, logging a win over Alexandr Dolgopolov in the final of the Valencia Open.

The world No. 5 needed three sets to down the Ukrainian 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and win in Valencia for the third time. He also took the event in 2008 and 2010.

It was Ferrer's sixth crown of the 2012 season, following victories at Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco, Den Bosch and Bastad.

Dolgopolov fell to 1-2 in finals this year.
