VALENCIA, Spain, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig each won Wednesday and will meet in the quarterfinals of the Valencia Open tennis tournament in Spain.

Cilic won more than three-quarters of the points on serve in a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Fernando Verdasco. Cilic was 16-of-17 serving in breezing through the first set and had a pair of breaks in the second to more than offset the only dropped service game he suffered.

Dodig, in the final match Wednesday, defeated Lleyton Hewitt 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 behind three third-set breaks. Dodig took 64 percent of the points off Hewitt's serve in the final set.

David Goffin, also in the second round, upset fifth-seeded John Isner 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4. Goffin managed eight break points -- cashing in two -- against the hard-serving Isner. All of those opportunities came in the third set. Isner had only two break chances, finishing off one each in the second and third sets.

Gilles Muller eliminated eighth-seeded Milos Raonic in a tight 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) and Marcel Granollers topped Jan Hajek 7-5, 6-4 in the final first-round matches of the tournament.
