MLB: N.Y. Mets 9, Philadelphia 5 (10 inn.)

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Kelly Shoppach's homer highlighted a four-run outburst in the 10th inning Tuesday that carried the New York Mets past Philadelphia 9-5.

David Wright began the rally with a one-out single against B.J. Rosenberg (0-2) and Ike Davis put the Mets ahead with a double into the left-center field gap that rolled to the wall.

He then came home on Lucas Duda's single and Shoppach capped the uprising by smashing a pitch deep into the left field stands for a two-run homer.

The Mets' catcher earlier had delivered an RBI double with two outs in the eighth to tie the game 5-5, finishing the night 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Mike Baxter also belted a two-run homer for the Mets, who took the opener of a three-game series.

New York's Bobby Parnell (4-3) fired two scoreless frames to record the victory.

Ryan Howard cracked a grand slam and Chase Utley added a solo homer to account for Philadelphia's offense.
