Titans' Britt undergoes knee 'cleanup'

NASHVILLE, May 16 (UPI) -- Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt underwent a cleanup surgery as he recovers from torn knee ligaments, the team said Wednesday.

Titans General Manager Ruston Webster called the arthroscopic procedure "very common."

Britt first underwent surgery on the knee last fall after tearing both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments during a Sept. 25 contest against the Denver Broncos.

He had racked up an AFC-best 271 receiving yards before sustaining the injury.

"It's not one of those things that was, 'Wow, we're having surgery.' It's very common, and if it helps his rehab process, it's well worth doing," Webster said. "Our goal is to have him play this year. You don't want to get into the middle of camp and (need to do something)."

Britt has 101 catches for 1,765 yards and 15 touchdowns in 31 NFL games.

The receiver pleaded not guilty in July in New Jersey to three disorderly persons offenses stemming from a June incident in Hoboken, when he was arrested by plainclothes narcotics officers who claimed Britt crushed a marijuana cigar in his hands to conceal it from investigators.

He pleaded guilty to speeding in June after felony charges were dropped following a police chase in his hometown of Bayonne, N.J.
