ANAHEIM, Calif., May 10 (UPI) -- The Anaheim Ducks announced Thursday the team has extended the contract of Coach Bruce Boudreau two years through the 2014-15 season.

"I'm really happy about this," Boudreau said. "I'm convinced we have a great core of players and a bright future, and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Boudreau was fired as coach of the Washington Capitals Nov. 28, but Anaheim hired him three days later. He replaced Randy Carlyle, who was released following the team's 7-13-4 start to the 2011-12 season.

Anaheim wound up with a 27-23-8 record under Boudreau, but the Ducks finished 15 points out of a playoff spot.

"Since joining the organization last November, Bruce has done an outstanding job with the team," Anaheim General Manager Bob Murray said. "He is committed to us and determined to lead us back to the playoffs."
