Kirilenko leads 6-0 day for seeded players

ESTORIL, Portugal, May 1 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Maria Kirilenko led a perfect day for seeded players Tuesday at the Estoril Open tennis tournament in Portugal.

Kirilenko beat Elena Baltacha 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. Kirilenko had six aces as she won 60 percent of the points on serve. She also won 55 percent of the points off Baltacha's serve.

Kirilenko is now 2-0 lifetime versus Baltacha but Tuesday marked their first meeting since 2004.

Seeded players went 6-0 and didn't drop a set Tuesday.

No. 3-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues stopped Kristina Barrois 6-4, 6-1. She lost four points on serve in the second set. Fourth-seeded Petra Cetkovska took out Alexandra Panova 6-2, 6-1 with six breaks.

Fifth-seeded Zheng Jie beat Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-1; No. 6 Kaia Kanepi won 70 percent of the points as a 6-1, 6-0, rout of Sloane Stephens; and No. 9-seeded Polona Hercog dispatched Tamira Paszek 6-0, 6-3.

Also Tuesday, Maria Joao Koehler beat Ayumi Morita 6-1, 7-6; Jarmila Gajdosova eliminated Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-3, 6-1; Heather Watson got by Lucie Hradecka 6-4, 6-4; Galina Voskoboeva defeated Anastasiya Yakimova 6-1, 6-4; and Karin Knapp took out Eleni Daniilidou 7-5, 6-2.
