SAN JOSE, Calif., April 8 (UPI) -- Dan Boyle scored with 1:02 left in overtime Saturday to give San Jose a 3-2 win over Los Angeles in a battle for the last two seeds in the Western Conference.

The Sharks and Kings dueled extra time in the 1,230th and final game of the NHL's regular season.

Both teams began the day with hopes of claiming the Pacific Division title, but they needed a loss by Phoenix for that to happen. Phoenix did not cooperate, claiming the division crown earlier in the evening with a win over Minnesota.

San Jose grabbed the No. 7 seed in the playoffs and will take on St. Louis in the opening round. Los Angeles, as the eighth seed, will face Vancouver.

Los Angeles scored the only goal in each of the first two periods with Justin Williams and Mike Richards giving the Kings a 2-0 lead heading into the third.

Boyle tallied 35 seconds into the final period and Patrick Marleau tied it on the power play with 11:46 remaining.

Thomas Greiss, filling in for Antti Niemi late in the game, picked up the win by stopping all six shots he faced. Jonathan Quick made 20 saves for the Kings.
