NHL: Florida 2, Carolina 0

SUNRISE, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Jose Theodore stopped 34 shots and posted his third shutout of the season, and the 33rd of his career, Sunday in the Florida Panthers' 2-0 win over Carolina.

Tomas Fleischmann's 22nd goal of the season, with assists by Stephen Weiss and Wojtek Wolski, gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead at 3:22 of the second period. Marcel Goc, assisted by Tomas Kopecky and Jason Garrison, scored into an empty net with 1:32 left to play.

The Panthers maintained a one-point edge over Washington in the Southeast Division. The Capitals beat Toronto 2-0 Sunday.

Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward allowed one goal on 32 shots to take the loss.
