NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Cory Schneider made 29 saves Friday in carrying the Vancouver Canucks to their second impressive performance in as many nights, a 2-1 win over New Jersey.

After ending Detroit's 23-game home winning streak, the longest in NHL history, the Canucks returned to the ice 24 hours later to hand the Devils their first loss in five outings.

Vancouver improved to 3-1 on a six-game road trip that will take the Canucks to Dallas and Phoenix, and also took over the NHL lead with 86 points -- one more than the Red Wings.

With the Canucks playing on back-to-back nights, Schneider was given the start over Roberto Luongo and he allowed only a second-period goal to David Clarkson.

That was the final goal of the game with Schneider holding on to win for the 14th time in 19 decisions this season.

Aaron Rome and Mason Raymond scored for Vancouver, which has won six of its last seven and improved its road record to 21-10-2.

Martin Brodeur gave up the two goals on only 16 shots.
