LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Sami Salo and Andrew Ebbett scored on the power play during a three-goal first period Thursday and the Vancouver Canucks then fought off Los Angeles 3-2.

Jamie Quick settled down after giving up three goals on 11 shots in the opening 20 minutes, but Roberto Luongo made 27 saves and did not allow the Kings' second goal until 70 seconds remained in regulation.

Salo scored 6:51 into the contest while Trevor Lewis was serving a major penalty for elbowing. Ebbett tallied 42 seconds later, producing his first goal of the season in his fourth game. Ebbett had only two goals in 33 games with Phoenix last season and has never had more than nine in a season during his five years in the league.

Aaron Rome scored on a slap shot with 4:18 left in the first to give the Canucks a comfortable lead.

Drew Doughty had a power-play goal midway through the second period and that was all Los Angeles could manage until Mike Richards tipped in a shot in the closing moments.

Quick made 30 saves while losing his fourth straight decision. He has not won since Oct. 27 in a game against Dallas.
