SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau scored twice and Antti Niemi took a shutout deep into the third period Thursday, lifting the San Jose Sharks to a 3-1 win over Minnesota.
The Wild had a five-game winning streak halted, becoming the victim of a three-goal second period in which Marleau twice took advantage of the power play to score his fifth and sixth of the season.
Niemi made 20 saves and did not allow a goal until Kyle Brodziak scored with 6:27 left in the third.
It was the third time this season Minnesota had been held to a single goal and the Wild won one of those contests in a 1-0 decision over Detroit.
Marleau scored 2:34 into the second and made it 2-0 with 4:26 to go in the period. Torrey Mitchell scored on a slap shot with 1:21 remaining.
Niklas Backstrom stopped 32-of-35 shots.
