Tipsarevic heads to another semifinal

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Janko Tipsarevic, with two tournament titles in the last month, rallied for a quarterfinal win Friday at the St. Petersburg Open in Russia.

The No. 2-seeded Tipsarevic, still in the running to get an invitation to the ATP World Tour Finals, won championships in early October in Malaysia and last week in Moscow. He kept hope alive of a third title with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-2 win Friday over Potito Starace.

Tipsarevic won two-thirds of the points over the last two sets and only faced two break points -- none in the first-set loss -- on the day.

He'll go against seventh-seeded Alex Bogomolov Jr. in the semifinals Saturday. Bogomolov was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Dusan Lajovic in his quarterfinal match. Bogomolov had five breaks in eight receiving games.

The other semifinal will have fourth-seeded Marin Cilic meeting No. 5-seeded Mikhail Youzhny.

Cilic got past Andreas Seppi 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 in a 2 1/2-hour match. Youzhny dispatched Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 but winning 50 percent of the points when receiving serve.
