MOSCOW, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Vera Dushevina ousted seventh-seeded Roberta Vinci in first-round action Monday at the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament in Moscow.
Dushevina eliminated Vinci by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 when she finished off both her break chances in the second set. Neither player did well on second serves -- Dushevina won just 7-of-23 of those points on her serve -- but Dushevina managed five breaks in 11 receiving games.
Nadia Petrova topped Evgeniya Rodina 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) with nine aces and saving all but one of the eight break points she faced. Petrova goes against Dushevina in the second round.
Bojana Jovanovski sailed to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alona Bondarenko. Jovanovski won 61 percent of the points in the match, losing just eight points in the second set. That put her into the second round against top-seeded Vera Zvonareva, who has a first-round bye.
Also Monday, Kaia Kanepi defeated Sara Errani 6-0, 7-5 and earned a second-round spot against fourth-seeded Francesca Schiavone.
