
PHOENIX, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Paul Goldschmidt had a grand slam and five RBI total Tuesday to help Arizona beat Milwaukee 8-1 and avoid elimination in the National League Division Series.
Goldschmidt drove in what turned out to be the winning run with a first-inning single and followed with a grand slam home run in the fifth off Brewers' starter Shaun Marcum (0-1). Miguel Montero drove in two runs and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who got three hits and two runs scored from Willie Bloomquist in an 11-hit attack.
Josh Collmenter (1-0) held the Brewers to one run on two hits over seven innings -- allowing a home run by Corey Hart and a single by Jerry Hairston Jr. Collmenter struck out six and walked two.
Marcum was charged with seven runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.
The Brewers lead the best-of-five series 2-1 with Game 4 set for Wednesday in Phoenix.
