MILWAUKEE, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Carlos Gomez ignited Milwaukee to a 7-3 win over Pittsburgh Wednesday and brought the Brewers home-field advantage to start the playoffs.
An hour after their game was concluded, the Brewers learned they will face Arizona in the NL Division Series beginning Saturday. Milwaukee closed out the season with a victory that gave the Brewers their best record in franchise history (96-66).
Zack Greinke (16-6) went six innings to get the win and went unbeaten at home in his first season with the Brewers. He gave up two runs on five hits.
The homer by Gomez came in the fourth and gave the Brewers a 5-1 lead. Jonathan Lucroy and Corey Hart had solo shots for Milwaukee in the first inning.
Jeff Locke (0-3) took the loss, giving up five runs in four innings.
Pittsburgh, which had the lead in the NL Central during July, endured a huge slump during the second half of the season and finished 72-90.
