PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick suffered a contusion to his right hand and not a broken bone, Eagles Coach Andy Reid said Monday.

Vick was injured during a 29-16 loss Sunday to the New York Giants.

Doctors initially said the quarterback had a fractured right -- non-throwing -- hand, but subsequent examinations determined there was no fracture.

"We had a few different shots taken of his hand yesterday during the game," Reid said Monday. "The early clips showed that there was no break. The ones that came back when he was on the field showed that there was a potential fracture there. Today he had a scan and it showed there was no break."

The original X-rays appeared to show a fracture because a blood vessel was sitting above the bone, he said.

Reid said swelling in the injured hand has to ease before Vick's status for Sunday's game against San Francisco will be determined.

Vick played against the Giants a week after suffering a concussion in a contest at Atlanta. He was later cleared for full practice and to start against New York.
