ST. LOUIS, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Pinch-runner Adron Chambers scored the game-winning run on a ninth-inning wild pitch Saturday and St. Louis rallied to edge the Chicago Cubs 2-1.

Trailing 1-0 heading into their final at-bat, the Cardinals came back for a pair of runs off Cubs closer Carlos Marmol (2-6) to pull off a dramatic win and creep closer to National League wild card leader Atlanta.

Matt Holiday punched a one-out single and pinch-runner Tyler Greene stole second, going to third on Chicago catcher Geovany Soto's throwing error.

After fanning David Freese, Marmol issued a walk to Yadier Molina, with Chambers coming in to run for him. The closer followed with consecutive passes to Skip Schumaker and Ryan Theriot, forcing in the tying run.

Then with Rafael Furcal at bat, Marmol uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Chambers to score the game-winner.

Combined with Atlanta's loss to Washington Saturday, the Cards pulled to within two games of the wild card leaders with four left to play.

Jason Motte (5-2) was credited with the win after logging the final two outs of the ninth inning.

Cards starter Kyle Lohse went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits while fanning eight.
