Giants employee allegedly stole $1.5M

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A former front office employee has been charged with embezzling more than $1.5 million from the San Francisco Giants, the club says.

Robin O'Connor, 41, was charged with wire and computer fraud after an FBI investigation of the team accounts, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Giants officials said O'Connor was fired in July after the Bank of America inquired about a home loan application O'Connor signed. Her file included a letter that appeared to come from the team's director of human resources that said she had received two large bonuses in May 2010.

At the time she was confronted by team officials, O'Connor allegedly admitted stealing more than $600,000 and repaid the money. The team turned the case over to the FBI after discovering other discrepancies in her accounts.

O'Connor worked in the front office as a payroll manager for three years. Officials said she was responsible for direct deposits into employees' accounts.

The Giants gave O'Connor a 2010 World Championship ring.
