DETROIT, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The division-leading Detroit Tigers bolstered their outfield corps Monday, trading away pitching prospect Cole Nelson for Minnesota's Delmon Young.

The Tigers threw in a player to be named later to get the deal done as the Twins came to town for a series.

Young, hampered by injuries this season, is hitting .266 with four home runs and 32 RBI in 84 games after batting .298 with 21 homers and 112 RBI last year.

The 25-year-old outfielder has a .289 average with 63 homers and 376 RBI since reaching the majors with Tampa Bay in 2006.

Nelson is 5-11 with a 4.87 earned run average for Detroit's Class A Lakeland affiliate.

The Twins, 11 1/2 games off the pace in the American League Central, will find out what other player they will get from the Tigers, who lead the division by 2 1/2 games, by Oct. 15.
