Pirates add Ludwick in deal with Padres

PITTSBURGH, July 31 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates completed their second trade in two days Sunday, acquiring outfielder Ryan Ludwick from the San Diego Padres.

The Padres received a player to named later for Ludwick, who has struggled with San Diego this season, hitting just .238 with 11 home runs and 64 RBI with 87 strikeouts.

The outfielder was also dealt at last year's trade deadline, going from St. Louis to the Padres. He belted 37 homers and knocked in 113 runs for the Cardinals in 2008.

The deal came less than 24 hours after the Pirates -- who entered Sunday 3 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central -- acquired first baseman Derrek Lee from the Baltimore Orioles for a minor leaguer.
