Two-time champ Murray ousted in Montreal

MONTREAL, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Two-time defending champion Andy Murray was ousted from the Rogers Cup in first-round play Tuesday, falling to South African Kevin Anderson.

Murray, the fourth seed, was broken four times in his stunning defeat to Anderson, who posted a 6-3, 6-1 upset in Montreal.

The 6-foot-8 South African, ranked 35th in the world, logged five aces in his win over 2011 Australian Open runner-up Murray, who beat fellow two-time Rogers Cup champion Roger Federer in last year's finale in Toronto.

Five matches scheduled for Tuesday weren't finished, due to rain, and were pushed back to Wednesday.

They included a contest between Czech Radek Stepanek, who won in Washington last week, and Spain's Feliciano Lopez. The pair split the first two sets and Stepanek was up 3-2 in the third before the postponement.

No. 15 Fernando Verdasco and Germany's Tobias Kamke were tied 2-2 in the third set while American John Isner was holding a 6-3, 0-1 lead over Marcos Baghdatis when the rains came.
