CHICAGO, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira had two home runs and three RBI Tuesday to lead the New York Yankees to a 6-0 win over the Chicago White Sox in a rain-shortened game.
Teixeira and Andruw Jones had solo home runs in the top of the seventh, which turned out to be the final at-bats of the game -- which was called after a lengthy rain delay at the seventh-inning stretch.
The switch-hitting Teixeira homered from both sides of the plate. It was the 12th time in his career he accomplished that feat.
Phil Hughes (2-3) had plenty of offense en route to the shutout victory. Hughes allowed three hits and struck out four in six innings.
John Danks (4-9) allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings in the loss.
Chicago lost its fourth consecutive game. The Yanks have won five straight and eight of their last 10.
