WASHINGTON, July 12 (UPI) -- A jury of 10 women and two men with four alternates was completed Tuesday for the Washington perjury trial of former major baseball pitcher Roger Clemens.
The U.S. District Court panel was chosen after four days of questioning and is overwhelming composed of people who said they knew little about baseball or Clemens, whose likely Hall of Fame career was derailed by allegations he used steroids, The New York Times reported.
The former Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros hurler is charged with perjury for testifying before Congress in 2008 that he never used steroids or human growth hormone.
"The Rocket" finished his 23-year career with a 354-184 record and 4,872 strikeouts.
One of the seated jurors is a woman who said her cousin is former Baltimore Orioles outfielder Al Bumbry, but most of jurors testified during questioning they had little idea who Clemens is, the Times reported.
Clemens' former personal trainer Brian McNamee, who told Congress he injected the pitcher with steroids, is expected to be a key witness.
Opening statements are set for Wednesday.
