MLB: Cincinnati 8, Chicago Cubs 2

CINCINNATI, June 6 (UPI) -- Johnny Gomes drove in four runs Monday, helping the Cincinnati Reds hand the Chicago Cubs their seventh straight loss in an 8-2 decision.

Gomes' run-scoring single in the second inning tied the score 1-1 and his three-run homer in the fifth broke the contest open for the Reds.

Jay Bruce went 3-for-4, crossing the plate three times, and Drew Stubbs added a two-run shot as Cincinnati won the first match of a three-game series against the Cubs.

Mike Leake (5-2) stretched his personal unbeaten streak to four starts, holding Chicago to two runs on 10 hits through eight innings.

Chicago starter Matt Garza (2-5) was touched for four runs on six hits before exiting after four innings as the Cubs remained winless since May 29.

Kosuke Fukudome and Blake DeWitt each collected three hits for Chicago.
