Finland reaches World hockey semifinals

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia, May 12 (UPI) -- Jarkko Immonen's two power-play goals Thursday helped send Finland past Norway 4-1 and into the semifinals of the 2011 World Championship in Slovakia.

Tuomo Ruutu and Jani Lajunen also scored for the Finns and Petri Vehanen made 37 saves.

Ken Andre Olimb scored for Norway on a penalty shot. Lars Haugen turned aside 30 shots in defeat.

All the scoring took place in the second period.

On Friday, Finland will play the winner of the Canada-Russia quarterfinal match. It's the first time Finland has reached the World semis since winning the bronze medal in 2008.

Sweden and the Czech Republic meet in the other semifinal.
