HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C., April 23 (UPI) -- Luke Donald fired a 1-under 70 Saturday, maintaining his position atop the leaderboard at The Heritage after 54 holes in South Carolina.

Donald, who will take over the World No. 1 ranking if he can hang on for the victory, finished the day at 11-under 202, one better than defending champion Jim Furyk.

Donald, currently ranked third in the world, would bypass Lee Westwood for the top spot even if Westwood goes on to win this weekend's event in Indonesia due to the strength of the field at Hilton Head Island.

Jim Furyk finished with a 2-under 69 after bogeying the last hole, good for sole possession of second place at 10-under.

Brendon de Jonge (66) and Scott Verplank (67) are tied for third at 9-under 204.
