MLB: LA Angels 4, Cleveland 3 (12 inn.)

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 13 (UPI) -- A sacrifice fly by Jeff Mathis scored Vernon Wells in the 12th inning Wednesday and gave the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 victory over Cleveland.

The 12th-inning run was the first for Los Angeles since the fourth inning, when Torii Hunter finished off a three-run frame with a two-run homer.

Los Angeles won for the fourth time in five games.

Ervin Santana gave up three runs on six hits for the Angels over seven-plus innings. The win went to Hisanori Takahashi (1-0), who worked the final two innings.

The winning run was given up by Chad Durbin (0-1), the fifth Cleveland pitcher. Shin-Soo Choo drove in two runs for the Indians, one on a sacrifice fly in the first and another on a groundout in the eighth that forged a 3-3 tie.
