PHILADELPHIA, April 1 (UPI) -- John Mayberry Jr.'s pinch-hit single capped a three-run, ninth-inning rally that gave the Philadelphia Phillies a season-opening 5-4 win over Houston.
The Phillies trailed 4-0 after 6 1/2 innings but came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and three in the ninth.
Houston reliever Brandon Lyon (0-1) allowed six hits -- all singles -- and three runs while taking the loss while Danys Baez (1-0) had one inning of one-hit relief in earning the win.
Philadelphia had just four hits before the ninth inning when Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each singled. After an out, Ben Francisco singled in Rollins and Carlos Ruiz added a single that loaded the bases. Wilson Valdez tied the score with another single.
Mayberry was sent in to bat for Baez and lined a base hit over drawn-in center fielder Michael Bourn.
Houston got the game's first run on an RBI ground out by Bill Hall. Bourn tripled in two runs and scored himself on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh for a 4-0 lead. Philadelphia made the score 4-2 with a pair of RBIs on outs in the bottom of the inning.
