DAYTON, Ohio, March 28 (UPI) -- Brian Gregory is leaving his University of Dayton position as men's head basketball coach to take a similar job at Georgia Tech, Dayton officials said.

Gregory, 44, had been Dayton's head coach for eight seasons, building a 172-94 record. The Flyers were 22-14 this season and earned a second consecutive NIT berth. They won the NIT title in 2010.

Dayton made the NCAA tournament twice with Gregory as coach.

The Dayton Athletic Department confirmed via Twitter that Gregory was leaving.

He will replace Paul Hewitt at Georgia Tech. Hewitt was fired March 12 after the Yellow Jackets completed a 13-18 season. Georgia Tech was 190-162 in 11 seasons with Hewitt as coach.

Dayton was Gregory's first position as a head coach. He was previously an assistant at Michigan State, Toledo and Northwestern.
